  79.  ║    Technical details (about the crack):                                 ║

  82.  ║  Gene Layton (the author of PFED) really went wild with ISR's           ║
  83.  ║  (Interrupt Service Routines)..  in an attempt to make his program      ║
  84.  ║  resistant to debugging.  Of course, resistance is futile.   =)         ║

  86.  ║  However, due to the anti-debugger code, and the fact that DOS apps are ║
  87.  ║  generally tougher to crack than Windows apps, it took me about 10      ║
  88.  ║  hours before I was able to fully understand his code.                  ║

  90.  ║  Unlike many previous attempts at patching PFED, mine strips the        ║
  91.  ║  protection entirely.  I even removed the requirement for a keyfile     ║
  92.  ║  (PFED.KEY) -- now you don't even need the trial keyfile..  =)          ║

  99.  ║  consuming either.  Also, I decided to give Gene Layton a "taste of his ║

  102.  ║  ..he'll have some fun trying to figure out how my memory patcher works,║
  103.  ║  if he gets his hands on it!   =)                                       ║

  105.  ║  I've been thinking -- the serious advantage that many protectionist    ║
  106.  ║  have over us, is an ability to spy on our efforts.  If they get a hold ║
  107.  ║  of a patched copy of one of their programs, they can just keep         ║
  108.  ║  modifying their code until they think that patch will no longer be     ║
  109.  ║  possible.  ...and then us crackers have to waste time figuring it out  ║
  110.  ║  all over again!  =(                                                    ║

  112.  ║  With memory patchers, this isn't true anymore!  =)  ..because now,     ║
  113.  ║  protectionists have to crack our patchers, before being able to        ║
  114.  ║  have ANY CHANCE at understanding how we cracked their stuff..   =)     ║

  116.  ║  ..and of course, most can't (as most don't know assembly language).    ║

  118.  ║  Just think, most can't even figure out WHERE we patched their code!    ║

  174.     Some changes in REBELS.  def_fred stepped down from  leadership in
  175.     order to focus on IRL and let someone who has  the online time and
  176.     devotion take  the lead  together  with  Hellrazor,  Deserfox  the
  177.     old school  dude  replaces  him  and  REBELS  forms  a  council of
  178.     oldtimers who will act as support.  def_fred, Charley, Omnibuz and 
  179.     MindsEye moves into council and Int13  replaces Pain  as  cracking 
  180.     co-ordinator when Pain is doing finals and Ipggi is doing a  great
  181.     job site co-ordinating. IceToad is Release Packing Coordinator and 
  182.     we sure expect him to whack some serious ass! =)
